10 years of growth and resilience at Habesha

In Ethiopia, we operate the Habesha brewery together with local shareholders, producing Habesha, Kidame, Feta and the malt beverage Negus. This year marks an important milestone: ten years of growth, development and resilience.

We are proud to be one of the leading players in the Ethiopian beer market. At the same time, we remain closely connected to the people living around the brewery, and we celebrate this success together with the communities around us.

From vision to reality

Ten years ago, the first bottle of Habesha beer rolled off the production line in Debre Birhan. What started as an ambitious project has grown into a leading brewery in Ethiopia. Since the first commercial sale on July 12, 2015, production expanded from 300,000 to 1.5 million hectoliters, with a portfolio of four brands and five SKUs, including a fast-growing draught beer line introduced in 2020.

Local involvement

Habesha is firmly rooted in the local community, supported by 8,000 local shareholders and ingredients sourced from Ethiopian soil. We work closely with farmers and malting partners and contribute to community wellbeing by providing clean drinking water, agricultural water and educational materials. Together, we build a strong and supportive community.

A festive anniversary

The 10-year milestone was marked with events at the brewery and at the head office. A commemorative tree was planted as a symbol of our continued commitment to Ethiopia and to sustainable, long-term growth.
